World Water Day 2018

Event, Water Quality
#WorldWaterDay March 22, 2018 marks the 25th celebration of World Water Day! This year’s theme is “Nature for Water - exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.” They are asking us to think about how we can reduce floods, droughts and water pollution. And their answer is simple, by using the solutions we already find in nature (nature -based solutions NBS) The main goal of this campaign is to raise awareness of NBS. "The central message is that NBS, such as planting trees to replenish forests, reconnecting rivers to floodplains, and restoring wetlands, is a sustainable and cost-effective way to help rebalance the water cycle, mitigate the effects of climate change and improve human health and livelihoods.” We can all make small contributions that…

This Pi Day Wear Purple for #DressForSTEM!

Blog
#DressForSTEM March 14th may seem like just any other day, but for many it has become National PI (π) Day. It has grown into a day to celebrate mathematics specifically the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter which is approximately 3.14159. We often don’t realize it, but PI is being used around us every day. When we use our GPS for directions it uses PI to calculate locations. NASA scientists and also engineers use it to study the various characters of planets. Those in aviation use it to calculate flight time, how much fuel they will need on their trip, and to design airplanes. Many who celebrate eat different kinds of pies, some pizza restaurants join in the festivities with deals of $3.14 for their pizza pies. But…
