March 22, 2018 marks the 25th celebration of World Water Day! This year’s theme is “Nature for Water – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.” They are asking us to think about how we can reduce floods, droughts and water pollution. And their answer is simple, by using the solutions we already find in nature (nature -based solutions NBS) The main goal of this campaign is to raise awareness of NBS. “The central message is that NBS, such as planting trees to replenish forests, reconnecting rivers to floodplains, and restoring wetlands, is a sustainable and cost-effective way to help rebalance the water cycle, mitigate the effects of climate change and improve human health and livelihoods.” We can all make small contributions that will make a big difference!
