RLR Communicator
(1/3/2013)

The RLR Communicator diagnoses signal/sensor alignment issues and provides a graphical view of the signal received by the sensor. Future versions of the communicator will allow users to acquire/configure sensor set-up and download sensor logs.

In order for a User PC running Windows XP (or later version)* to communicate with Sutron's Radar Level Recorder, the Sutron RLR Communicator application must be installed on the User PC. The Communicator is "freeware" and there is no cost to download.

RLR Communicator Version 1.0 Installation

*Note:  If using the Sutron RLR Communicator program on a PC with Windows VISTA or Windows 7 or 8 and with a USB-to-serial adapter, please be sure that adapters with FDTI chipsets are used.

UPGRADING RLR FIRMWARE

To upgrade the Radar, connect your PC to the sensor using an RS-232 DB9 cable, and use a terminal program.

Microsoft Windows usually comes with a terminal program called HyperTerminal. It can be found by going to the Windows start menu, Programs, Accessories, Communications.

Once started, choose the COM port that you have connected the cable to. Then select these options: 115200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, hardware flow control.

Once connected, press ENTER. The sensor will respond with a prompt >. You may type VER to see the current software in the sensor.

Type UPG and ENTER to start the download. The sensor will respond by outputting 'C'. If using HyperTerminal, use the Transfer, Send File menu. Choose the .upg downloaded from this page file and choose Y-Modem.

Once the .upg transfer is complete, hit ENTER again. Type VER to see the new version of the software.

Release Notes - RADAR - Version 1.43

  • Improvements to Radar stage measurements.
  • Added capability to track water surface even under low signal return conditions
  • Added capability to obtain Radar sweeps through HyperTerm interface
  • Added capability to register pre-defined error codes in the Subsample log, if target location estimation fails
  • Subsample log will contain additional information such as PWM maximum, PWM minimum and PWM delta.
  • Sensor, by default, will only identify targets which report a PWM duty cycle of 80% or less.
  • Fixed an issue where sensor returns distance to water in feet instead of meters to TARGET command, SDI-12 M!, and MODBUS
  • Fixed an issue where Baud rate is not showing up in "SETUP" command or HELP
  • TCOR coefficients no longer default on reboot
